Rules

(World Pong Tour Rules)
These rules are a variation of the World Pong Tour Rules.

Game Setup

A. Cup Formation and Equipment
  • 10 cups must be centered in triangular formation at the back of the playing area on the table.
  • Cups must not be tilted or leaned against the surrounding cups.
  • 8 ft. tables are used for ALL Monsterpong events.

B. Content of Cups
  • Water should be distributed evenly in the 10 cups. It is the responsibility of the players to make sure their own cups are filled up approximately halfway.

Playing the Game

A. Shooting
  • No bouncing is allowed and if the ball hits the table before going into the cup, the shot will not count. The 2nd player must wait to shoot until the 1st player's ball has been shot, or the ball goes out of play.
  • Players are not allowed to move their own cups out of the way while shooting. If a player moves a cup to shoot and makes the shot, the shot will not count.
  • Anything that is on the table besides the game cups (wash cup, bottles, etc.) is considered to be out of play. If the ball hits anything out of play, including the table and then goes into a cup, it will not count. If a shot ball hits a defensive player and goes in a cup, it will count as a cup.
  • When a shot ball lands into a cup, the cup must be removed from play immediately. Offensive players must not shoot while cups are being removed. If a player happens to shoot his or her ball while their opponent is pulling a cup, it will be a missed shot. A ball is considered in play from the time it leaves a shooter's hand, up until it has hit anything other than the cups still in play (table, floor, hand, water cup, etc.).
  • If a cup falls over due to the force of a shot ball, the cup will count. Defensive players may NOT try to stop the cup from falling over. Doing so will result in the shot counting. Whipping the ball at cups to knock them over is prohibited. The ball CANNOT force the last and final cup off the table. In the event of this occurring, the cup will not count, and the cup is reset again to it's position. IF WATER IS LOST DUE TO FALLING OVER, IT MUST BE REFILLED.

B. Rollbacks
  • If both players on a team sink their shots on the same turn, that team will get one "rollback shot." Either player may take the rollback shot. The only exception to this rule is during rebuttal (see below).
  • The most cups a team can make in a single possession is 3 cups.

C. Reformation
  • Only two racks are allowed at 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6 cups. Racks must be asked for at the beginning of a possession or during the rollback, before the shot is taken. All racks must be centered in the back of the playing area. This is not the case during rebuttal, see section E.
  • Diagram of racks allowed:

NOTE THAT CENTERING THE LAST CUP COUNTS AS UTILIZING A RACK.

  • If cups happen to slide out of place from their original formations, then the offensive team may ask for the cup(s) to be fixed.

D. Defense
  • Players must not curse at the opposing team, use racism, personal attacks on players personal lives or family members, or ever physically cross the center of the table during a game. The defensive team must keep both hands and all body parts behind the back edge of the table on defense. No blowing the balls or 'fingering' balls out of cups.
  • The defensive team should not touch any of the cups unless a shot has been made, or if the opposing team requests the cup(s) be fixed.
  • Teams are allowed to swat a ball that is still in play (to prevent it from landing in a cup,) but only after it has made contact with the rim of a cup that's in play.
  • If a defensive player knocks over their own cup while swatting, cups will count. If the side of the cup makes any contact with the table while falling down, the shot will count.
  • If a defensive player's hand/arm comes in contact with a shot before it hits a cup, this will count as cup, as long as the defenders aren't PULLING A CUP that was made prior to the shot.
  • Players must not obstruct the view of the cups in any fashion when playing defense. Objects such as hats, cups, phones, towels or t-shirts may not be used for defense as they affect the air and may very well affect the path of the ball.
  • If a shot hits a defensive player and then makes its way in a cup, it counts.
  • If a defensive player knocks or bumps the table at any time during the offensive team's shot, the shooters shot will automatically count. The offensive team will select what cup is pulled. If the ball is in the air and the ball goes in while the table is bumped, no additional cups will be removed.

E. Ending the game, rebuttals, and overtime.
  • When the last cup is made, the opposing team will shoot and must also sink all the cups in rebuttal to force the game into an overtime. One player may take all the rebuttal shots, or players may alternate. Once one rebuttal shot is missed, the game is over. Should all rebuttal shots be made, 3 cup overtime will be played. Re-racking is allowed during rebuttal as long as the team has not used two racks. NOTE RACK FORMATION IN SECTION C.

F. Overtime
  • The team that initially made the last cup will shoot both balls first.
    The same rollback rules apply.
